The edible crab is always present in Shellfish banquets or as an entry in festive dinners. Where there is festivity there is noise, such as the sound of the hammer breaking the robust crab claws. The specimen that we have in Portuguese waters are few and do not satisfies the more learned palate. It is in the Mancha channel, in depths of 60 to 120 meters and very cold waters, where their natural habitat is, that we find the best quality crabs. At this place starts the journey to your door!
Em Portugal, apesar de ser uma espécie bastante capturada, é pouco utilizada na nossa gastronomia. A sua carne pode ser mais esbranquiçada ou rosada, e é excelente grelhado ou em ceviche. Em Itália, é frequentemente servido em carpaccio.
Also called “blue Lobster”, with dark and blueish tones, it lives on the western coast of Europe. The amount of this lobster captured on our coast is insufficient to satisfy all appreciators of this crustacean, creating the necessity to go to the French and English Coast, where they abound. Many consider it the King Shellfish.
